Gala Ball 2026 – 8 August 2026, doors open at 7pm, music and dancing from 7:30pm

Our annual Gala Ball is back on Saturday 8 August, once again generously hosted in the Public Trust Hall by our good friends at Star Group. Our Renaissance “Waits Band” of cornetto, shawms, sackbuts, strings, percussion and singers will provide the setting for another fun evening of musicking, socialising and, of course, dancing.

We’re delighted to announce that this year’s Dancing Masters will be Katherine Davies and David Robb–scholars, teachers and expert practitioners of Renaissance dancing. Come along and learn some new steps, or just sit back and be dazzled by their fancy footwork!

The doors open at 7pm, with music and dancing from 7:30pm. There will be light refreshments provided, and more food and drink available to purchase. The recommended ticket price is $60, but you can choose any amount from $30 🙂 . As always at our balls, historical costume is not required, but very welcome!

Furioso: a cycle of “mini-operas” by The Queen’s Closet – 10-11 October 2026 – more details soon!

This October, we’re reviving Furioso, our cycle of “mini-operas” that we piloted in the 2023 Classical on Cuba festival, in a semi-staged production. Using three baroque operas based on Ludovico Ariosto’s 16th century epic poem, Orlando Furioso, and working with stage director Jacqueline Coats, this production will provide an immersive experience of historical theatre, with bite-sized introductions to three contrasting styles of Baroque opera spanning from the 1620s to the 1720s: Francesca Caccini’s La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina, Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Roland, and Vivaldi’s Orlando Furioso.

We know that our recommended ticket pricing won’t suit everyone. We base our recommended pricing on the cost of producing our performances, but of course performing is nothing without our audience. We want to be sure that everyone who wants to come and experience our performances is able to do so.

If you do have the capacity to pay the recommended price for a performance, or even add on a little bit more (or better yet, send us that extra as a separate donation–we’re a registered charity!), that will help ensure that we can keep on musicking with you 🙂 .
